German? Or just like beer and brats? It’s ok. I mean how many up us dress up in all green without an ounce of Irish in our blood? Regardless of which category you fit into, it’s certain that Oktoberfest must be your favorite time of year. And starting this Saturday, Steven Starr’s Frankford Hall will be your go-to spot for all things Oktoberfest.
The uber-popular open air German biergarten in Fishtown is hosting a special event or promotion nearly every day starting Saturday, September 15 through the end of the month.

• Saturday, September 15-Sunday, September 16: Noon-3 p.m.A pig roast will kick off the 16-day celebration at Frankford Hall on Saturday. Also, from noon-3 p.m. both days, kids eat free (and get entertained by face painting and balloon artists). Enjoy Frankford Hall favorites like spicy bauernwurst and spätzle with bacon and mushroom while the little ones munch on burgers and frankfurters.
• Monday, September 17-Thursday, September 20, and Friday, September 28: 4 p.m.-close. Enjoy happy hour pricing featuring $5 1/2 liter drafts, $10 liter drafts (they are seriously huge), $6 warm bavarian pretzel with any draft beer and $8 choice of one sausage with 1/2 liter of any draft beer.
• Tuesday, September 18: 7-10 p.m. At the Great Lakes Brewing Company Seasonal Release Party, the environmentally conscious brewer of award-winning all-natural beer will debut its seasonal beer.
• Wednesday, September 19: 7:30 p.m. It’s Oktoberfest Beer Nerd Nite! Frankford Hall’s monthly Nerd Nite lecture event usually covers topics like science or technology, but the topic this night is beer.
• Thursday, September 20: 7-10 p.m. Yards Brewing Company will host its Seasonal Release Party. Be the first to taste the brewery’s original creation.
• Saturday, September 22: Noon-10 p.m.. The Oktoberfest Street Festival and Ceremonial Keg Tapping takes over Frankford Avenue between Girard and Shakamaxon Streets for 10 hours, featuring beer tents presented by German breweries Hofbrau and Spaten/Franziskaner plus local company Great Lakes Brewing; three beer trucks each with three delicious brews from each brewery; and a Frankford Hall food station dishing out sausages like bauernwurst and bratwurst, warm bavarian pretzels and rotisserie chicken. You can also get the full food menu inside.
Additional festival offerings include a family area in the nearby dog park with pony rides, dunk tanks and balloon makers, an Oktoberfest souvenir stand with German hats, beer stein koozies and Frankford Hall t-shirts, GTV Almrausch dancers and live performances on stage by Alexa Poller and the Ja Ja Jas. A DJ and Band will perform in Frankford Hall’s outdoor garden throughout the day and from noon-3 p.m., and kids each free (choice of burger or hot dog).
• Sunday, September 23: Noon-3 p.m. Celebrate Oktoberfest with Sunday Funday for the kids. There will be kid-appropriate menu items, face painting, balloon artist and more. Same specials on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30.
• Monday, September 24: 7-9 p.m. Frankford Hall will host an Oktoberfest Ping Pong Tourney. All are invited to attend to cheer for their favorites and enjoy $2 mini pretzels.
• Wednesday, September 26: 7-10 p.m. Oktoberfest Beer Olympics returns! Try your hand at beer stein carrying, can tosses and more beer-filled challenges to win the title of the Frankford Hall Beer Olympian.
• Thursday, September 27: 7-10 p.m. During the Festbeer Challenge, watch nine breweries duke it out as a panel of judges vote on the Frankford Hall Oktoberfest’s best beer. Beer reps will be on-site while guests sample crafted suds. One beer will reign supreme and win a spot on Frankford Hall’s beer tap for the entire year.
