do it!

Happy Hour, Art, Flying Dogs? It’s what’s doin’ in Philadelphia this weekend

The greatest art show in the nation, one green happy hour, and Red Bull's Flugtag are all descending on the city this weekend. Don't miss out on any of it.

Thursday: Happy Hour at Pop Up Garden

Join the Philadelphia Horticulture Socieity for Happy Hour at the PHS Pop Up Garden, on Walnut Street just off Rittenhouse Square. Wine and beer will be provided with light fare compliments of Chipotle Mexican Grill. Little Baby’s Ice Cream will offer free scoops, too. Shop at the PHS Pop Up Shop during the Happy Hour.

All proceeds benefit the PHS City Harvest program, which grows and donates fresh produce through a network of community gardens, helping to feed more than 1,000 families in need each week. Click here to purchase tickets, or contact Bridget Bonasch for more information.

Friday: Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show

The Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Association is holding their fall Fine Arts Show. This is a great art event where hundreds of artists set up booths along the perimeter of the park to expose the public to their work, all of which is for sale.

Regarded as  one of the most respected and well attended outdoor art events in the entire nation, the show attracts national and local artists, with media ranging from oil painting to photography to handmade jewelry to glassware.

Saturday: Red Bull Flugtag

Aviation history rests on a few loose screws when Red Bull Flugtag makes its soaring return to Philadelphia. Dozens of pilots will leave their flight manuals at home and descend on the Camden Waterfront to launch their flights of fancy off a 30-foot ramp. Witness history crashing down.

Enough of the colorful talk. What’s really going down is a bunch of crazy fools literally launching themselves in some form of vehicle off of the ramp into the river. The event is known for the creative “planes” sort of similarly to that of a Derby Race. It’s crazy. It’s different. It’s fun.
