Michael Nutter on Romney-Ryan, officer shooting, and Gas Works sale

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was busy this week outing Mitt Romney (again), pleading with citizens about gun violence, and baiting potential buyers for our utility.

Nutter’s two-cents on the addition of Paul Ryan to Mitt Romney’s election ticket:

“If there was any doubt that Mitt Romney was the wrong choice for people in Philadelphia and cities across this country, today’s pick of Paul Ryan as a running mate makes it crystal clear just how wrong his priorities are.”

In case you’re interested, there are a few other notable quotes from Nutter on the subject as well as his mayoral cohorts from Pittsburgh and Allentown.

Nutter has once again ordered the flags of Philadelphia to be flown at half-mast after off-duty police officer, Moses Walker, was shot and killed Saturday morning. This sentimental act also happened to give him some leverage to speak out about the growing problem of gun violence in the city.

“We will not make headway in dramatically reducing the scourge of gun violence and the proliferation of illegal guns until we as a community stand together and offer all information that we have on the perpetrators of violence in our city,” he said in a statement.

Walker is the seventh Philadelphia police officer killed in less than five years.

Nutter was also busy baiting potential buyers of Philadelphia Gas Works which happens to be the largest municipally owned gas utility in the United States.

“The hiring of a team of top-flight professionals is a clear demonstration to all, including potential buyers, how committed the city and its utility are to exploring the sale,” Nutter said in a statement.
