Michael Phelps’ swimming career is over. No. Really. It’s over. Seriously. Over. He’ll never swim another lap. He’s done. For good.
OK, so maybe you aren’t buying into that nonsense either, but we’re just repeating the lines over and over again to help us come to terms with the fact that men’s swimming will never be the same.
But, in the meantime, Phelps is on to the next big thing in his life. Like the world’s greatest sportsmen he looks up to so much, Phelps can’t ignore his competitive spirit and will be taking to the fairway to curb that appetite. And as the clever businessman he his, he also won’t be ignoring his celebrity so quickly after the London Olympic games. The world’s great Olympian will be featured in a reality TV show (gag) on the Golf Channel’s “Haney Project.”
And, it just so happens that two of Philadelphia’s own are involved. The show is produced by Tom Farrell and Steve Rotfeld of Bryn Mawr’s The WorkShop. According to our friends at Wikipedia, The WorkShop team has produced shows for broadcast syndication, cable networks, websites and corporate seminars, including Golf Channel, HGTV.COM, Disney.com, TLC, truTV, Kodak, NutriSystem and Villanova University. It has attracted hosting talent such as Charles Barkley, Ray Romano and Paige Davis, host of Trading Spaces.
“I love the fact that a Philly company will be working with the greatest Olympian of all time,” Farrell said of Phelps.
Production on the show begins next month when Phelps will be trained by coach Hank Haney at some of the best golf courses around the world.
Does that mean Phelps will be making appearances in Philadelphia? That’s yet to be seen. But, don’t we have enough celebs trolling the city? Oh, who are we kidding. There can never be enough celebs in town.
