Ice cream, food trucks, dancing, and a car show all going down this weekend

Learn a little about ice cream, eat a lot from some food trucks, dance it all off, and take in a car show. What a perfect way to round out the week.

Philadelphia Mobile Food Association is hosting a Food Truck Roundup on Friday night.

Thursday: Burgers! Fries! And the Craft of Ice Cream

There are a few things less summer-y than burgers and fries. Then, add ice cream into the mix and you’ve got yourself a night made for summertime. Join PAA as they explore the quintessential American dinner. Guests will start at Rittenhouse Tavern with a Prix Fixe Burger and Fries dinner. Then, immediately following dinner, guests will head to the PAA event space for a talk and ice cream tasting led by Eric Berley of Franklin Fountain. Dinner kicks off at 6 p.m. and the Craft of Ice Cream Presentation and Tasting starts at 7 p.m. Click here for ticket info.

Friday: Food Truck Roundup

While everyone else will be preparing themselves for Saturday’s Philly Vendy Awards 2012, you can be putting your money where your mouth is and gobbling up some of Philadelphia’s most tasty pop up treats. Brewerytown will host the Food Truck Roundup on Friday night from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. You’ll be able to eat from truck vendors like Vernalicious, Pitruco, Say Cheese, Foo Truck, Gozen Yogurt, Sweet Box, Jimmie’s Cupcakes, Lil Dan’s Gourmet, Zea May’s, Spot Gourmet Burger, Nomad Pizza, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, Gigi & Big R’s, Delicias, Zsa’s Ice Cream, Tamale Cart, Made in the Shade. And, for a special treat, you’ll be one of the first people ever to eat from Sunflower Truck Stop, Philadelphia’s newest food truck.

Music will be provided by DJ Ruxbin, and there will be mobile bar service thanks to Gypsy Bar Service.

Saturday: Dance Day Philadelphia

Get your dancing shoes on Philadelphia, it’s the biggest dance day in the world and Philadelphia is ready to boogie.
Philadelphia Dance Day is a nonprofit festival featuring free workshops, live performances from some of the city’s best-known instructors and a huge dance party. The goal is to unite the community in celebrating dance as a powerful platform for creative expression and physical activity.

All dance enthusiasts – regardless of experience or even coordination – are invited to take part in the fun on July 28, 2012. There will be something for everyone, from creative movement for preschoolers to hip-hop for all ages. Participants will tour studios around the city to sample free workshops during the afternoon, then come together in the evening for the main event at the historical Ethical Society Building on Rittenhouse Square. Festivities kick off there with a huge Zumba party, followed by more lessons and open social dancing. Volunteer instructors and well-respected dance groups in the city will also put on a performance showcase.
