Who better to help celebrate America’s Independence Day than Wawa? Ok, maybe a US history museum would be a slightly more obvious host. But, needless to say Wawa is an American staple and represents thriving American businesses. So…here’s how you can celebrate with them.
Probably the main event of the weeklong celebrations is the Wawa Hoagie Day where Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will join Wawa associates and hoagie-lovers across the region to celebrate Stars, Stripes, and Hoagies Forever! Wawa Associates will serve up the largest and most appetizing hoagie yet– a true Hoagie of Heroic proportions weighing more than 4.5 tons!
This year’s Hoagie Day will focus on honoring our troops and expanding Wawa’s partnership with the USO. During the event, guests will have the chance to visit the “letters from home” station and write their thoughts and thanks to share with our troops. Wawa Hoagie Day will feature a patriotic concert by the Liberty Bells, the official USO Show Troupe. Philadelphia police officers, firefighters, and branches of the military will also compete in a Hoagie building contest to benefit local charitable organizations.
Other events going on throughout the week include the “Go 4th and Learn” series of five free educational programs for young children and their parents. History, imagination, fitness, Mummers, and animals will all be covered this week. Additionally, they’ll be playing free, family-friendly cinematic classics on the big screen at great venues across the city. Think “Great Gatsby” in Rittenhouse Square, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” at The Piazza at Schmidts, and “Rocky” at where else, PMA.
They’ll also be holding live performances, fireworks displays, and parades all week long. Maybe Wawa does know how to host an American-bred party after all.
