Forget about the cocktails, Le Virtu’s new Happy Hour food menu is worth the trip

Le Virtu is offering a brand spanking new Happy Hour where you can dine in one of the city's best al fresco spaces while noshing on authentic Italian cuisine.

One of Le Virtu's new Happy Hour offerings.

Beginning today, Chef Joe Cicala of Le Virtù will serve a weekday Happy Hour. As one of Philadelphia’s most authentic Italian restaurants dedicated to the cuisine of the Abruzzo region the Happy Hour offerings will include specialty cocktails, beer and wine, as well as select antipasti. And, maybe the best part is it can all be enjoyed in one of the city’s few lush al fresco dining spaces, Il Campo.

“Everyone knows Italians are pros at eating and drinking well,” says Chef Cicala, who recently returned from a trip to Abruzzo and brought back fresh, delicious dishes for Le Virtù’s menu.  “We hope our guests will pop by for a drink and snack and stay for dinner and dessert, enjoying a casual and leisurely evening.”

Chef Cicala has selected a few dishes from his new menu to feature during Happy Hour including:  Palott Cac’ e Ove (braised egg-and-cheese croquettes in tomato sauce) and assorted brushcette like Affettato Misto, a personal platter of house-cured meats and antipasti.  In addition, he has created a few dishes that will be exclusively available only during Happy Hour such as:  Porchetta Panino, a grilled sandwich of roasted, sliced pork shoulder and Grilled Berks County Pork Shoulder with arugula salad. All priced at less than $10, makes these little snacks perfect for a pre-dinner meetup.

There are select drink specials to accompany your dinner, but with a menu like this…the drinks actually come second to the food. Not your typical Happy Hour, I know.

Speaking of dinner, Le Virtù serves dinner Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.  Every Tuesday night, guests are invited to BYO wine with no corkage fee.  Happy Hour is served every Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  For more information, or to make a reservation, please call (215) 271-5626, visit www.levirtu.com, follow Chef Cicala on Twitter (@Joe_Cicala) and like them on Facebook (Le Virtù).
