Neither current Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jason Peters nor former Eagles quarterback Vince Young are happy that they’re back in the news today.
The Eagles today confirmed a report that Peters re-ruptured the Achilles tendon he first injured back in March. While the team wouldn’t put a specific timetable on the setback, it’s highly unlikely that Peters, the team’s starting left tackle, will return to the field this year.
When Peters initially suffered the injury, the Eagles quickly hit the free agent market and snagged Demetress Bell to jump in at left tackle. Philly also re-signed King Dunlap and drafted Dennis Kelly in the fifth round of last month’s NFL Draft.
As for Young, the faux pas of his “Dream Team” moniker for the 2011 Eagles has followed him to his new team the Buffalo Bills. Today, he tried to explain to the Buffalo media what he meant when he talked last year. Here’s his quote, from the Bills website:
“What I was basically saying was the respect I had for the players. Just like we have here I have a lot of respect for the players that are here. There were a lot of talented guys in Philly, but I definitely won’t make that comment again. It was definitely blown out of proportion. It was just out of respect for the players I was around in that locker room. It’s the same thing here from Mario (Williams) and other guys that used to chase me around. It’s a great thing to be on the same sideline as these guys so it’s a great opportunity to be here.”
Nice try, Vince. Have fun up in chilly Buffalo this year.
