He kicked out a door and busted open the register – for $50

A still shot from surveillance video, in which the robber broke in part of the door with repeated back-kicks.

He kicked in the glass in the front door, squeezed through the opening, then smashed the register until he busted it open, then fled – with $50.

The mere theft of money seems to be the least of the damage caused by a smash-and-grab robber in Center City, according to a release release from the Philadelphia Police Department.

Authorities on Thursday released video and information about the incident, which occurred Dec. 7. The unknown male approached Mexico on the Square on Pine Street at 4:21 a.m. and knocked out the lower part of the door with a series of back-kicks.

He entered the business and tried to open the register, eventually just smashing it on the floor several times behind the counter.

The suspect is described as thin, about 6-feet tall, with short, dark hair and a tattoo on his left forearm. He wore a long sleeve shirt and possibly blue jeans.
