N.Y. Rangers honor the fan who was beaten up by Flyers hockey thugs

The NY Rangers’-jacketed, off-duty cop who was beaten up by Philadelphia Flyers fans in South Philadelphia last week will be honored by the team for which he suffered, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

Woodbridge, N.J., police Officer Neal Auricchio is getting tickets to the Rangers’ Feb. 27 game against the New Jersey Devils in Madison Square Garden, Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac told the Ledger.

That’s if he’s out of the hospital by then. Auricchio is headed for surgery to repair an eye socket that was damaged in the attack.

Auricchio and a friend had gone to the Winter Classic hockey game to watch the Rangers beat the Philadelphia Flyers, and were standing in line at Geno’s Steaks on South 9th Street when they were ganged up on by three men wearing Flyers jerseys.
