Temple basketball upsets Duke; colleges buying up porn domains

From the front page of this morning’s Daily News:

- They did it: The Temple Owls men’s basketball team upset the #5-ranked Duke Blue Devils, 78-73, last night. It marks the fourth straight year that the Owls have upset a Top 10 team, but this one was a little different. First, Temple was missing two of its five starters. And second, and maybe most importantly, the game was played in front of a sold-out crowd the Wells Fargo Center – something that the Philadelphia 76ers don’t do.

- Colleges obviously have a lot of bright people working for them, so it’s no surprise that they think of, well, just about everything. A Daily News story this morning reveals that colleges are becoming “Masters of Their Own Domains, buying up the new .XXX domains before “Porn Kings” do. The reason – they don’t want smutty links representing their schools.

So for anyone who wanted to be WestChester.XXX or LaSalle.XXX, you’re out of luck; you’ll have to look elsewhere for the funny joke.

From the front page of this morning’s Philadelphia Inquirer:

- The Republican battle has moved to a “new ground,” according to an Inquirer story. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum hit the pavement in Iowa, which resulted in his close race with the eventual winner, Mitt Romney, who has moved ahead and focused on New Hampshire – the next primary.

Romney received an endorsement from John McCain yesterday, making him the favorite in the New Hampshire primary. Meanwhile, Michele Bachmann has bailed out of the race, and Rick Perry has moved his focus to South Carolina.

- Disney has reached a 10-year agreement with Comcast to distribute its content over TV, smartphones and tablets, an Inquirer story reports. Now, Xfinity subscribers will continue to be able to access Disney programming, most notably ABC and ESPN, without the worry of a contract dispute. Exact financial numbers of the deal were not disclosed, but the Inquirer story says that industry experts predict it to be well north of $10 billion.
