Baby found abandoned in cardboard box of clothing in NW Philly

A newborn infant was found abandoned in a cardboard box in Northwest Philadelphia, police said late Thursday.

The infant was found by a church employee who was cleaning the pavement along the 2600 block of West Huntingdon Street Wednesday morning at around 10 a.m.

The employee found the cardboard box and was searching through clothing items – including a red and white hounds-tooth patterned blanket, an adult sized brown women’s sweater, a black bathrobe with polka dots and a large peach colored towel – when he dug up the baby.

Medical staff at Saint Christopher Hospital determined that the infant was just a few hours old. The child weighed 5.5 pounds and appeared to be in good condition with no signs of injuries.
