The brother of MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews is charged with lying to a grand jury that investigated political corruption in Montgomery County, according to the Associated Press.
Jim Matthews, who is retiring soon as Montgomery County Commissioner, was arraigned Tuesday on perjury and false-swearing charges. He was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
Prosecutors said Matthews lied about his relationship with a title company that does county business.
Prosecutors also said breakfast meetings between Matthews, another commissioner and other county officials seemed to be improper, but there is not enough evidence to prove they violated the state’s Sunshine Act.
